What are the benefits of working with a private instructor?
A one on one session allows the instructor to assess the strengths and weaknesses of YOUR body and is then able to tailor sessions specifically for you. The constant attention of a private instructor means that you are always the focus of her attention throughout the session and you can be certain that you are executing the exercises correctly. In this way, you are sure to get the maximum benefit from Pilates.
What are the benefits of working on the equipment?
Pilates equipment is specifically designed to enable you to be positioned perfectly so as to help you achieve the objective of each exercise as quickly as possible.
Can you start Pilates if you are over 50 and have never exercised?
Yes. Pilates is a method of exercise that has a repertoire of over 500 exercises. If an instructor is well trained, she will be able to tailor sessions that suit you and your level of fitness, strength and flexibility. Pilates is a perfect exercise option if you are a “late starter” … there is absolutely no age limit!
How young can you be to get the benefits of Pilates?
The earlier you start to become aware of correct alignment, correct usage of strength and the importance of spinal flexibility, the better! Because, however, private Pilates sessions require a full hour of extreme focus and concentration, the mat group classes offered at Bondi Pilates centre are recommended as a good way to start.
Can I practice Pilates if I am pregnant?
Yes. Your instructor will work with you throughout your pregnancy and will adjust your sessions according to each stage of your term. You will find that your Pilates body can help you during your pregnancy and can also help you to regain your condition after birth.
In general, it is recommended to return to Pilates 6 weeks after having given birth
Is Pilates only for women?
No. More and more men are discovering how helpful Pilates is for them.
How many times a week should I come to Pilates?
Ideally, 2 sessions a week will help you to achieve your goals quicker. If however, you can only manage once a week, that will still be beneficial. At Bondi Pilates Centre we strongly believe the knowledge you learn in the studio should be applied EVERYDAY in all your activities. This is the real benefit of Pilates….it is knowledge about your body that needs to be practiced every day in every situation.
What is the difference between Pilates and Yoga?
Pilates and Yoga have many similarities and many differences…and yet, they are very complementary. In brief, Pilates is a very specific and cognitive form of exercise as opposed to the more spiritual individual “journey” undertaken by a yoga practitioner.
